Council Meeting February 2007

Matters arising from Council meeting of the 28th February 2007

Petition re Demolition of Vandalised Flats in Acacia Street, Killarney

The council acknowledged receipt of a Petition from concerned residents supporting the decision of the Brosnan family to demolish the vandalised flats in Acacia Street, Killarney.

Background Information

A letter dated 30 October 2006 was forwarded to Mrs Dianne Brosnan when it came to Council's attention that she had demolished the building located at 16 Acacia Street, Killarney.

The building located on this land was listed on the Register of Cultural Heritage Places attached to Planning Scheme Policy No. 1 (Cultural Heritage).

Council's approval for the demolition of a building was required prior to a building approval being issued for the demolition of the building. Council approval was not applied for or granted for the demolition of this building in accordance with the Integrated Planning Act and the Warwick Shire Planning Scheme, and Council has no record of a building approval for demolition works having been obtained from a Private Building Certifier.

Report

The Petition was received by Council on 14 February 2007 containing 340 signatures supporting the Brosnan family in their decision to demolish the vandalised flats in Acacia Street, Killarney and find it offensive that Council is using rate payers money to prosecute the Brosnan family for helping to clean up Killarney. The Petition states that the flats were a target for vandals and as the cost to keep repairing them was not viable the only other option was to remove the problem.

Killarney Dingo Fence

Recommendation

  • THAT the report of the Manager Environmental Services dated 15 February 2007 in relation the Killarney Dingo Check Fence be received and that Council write to the Director of Land Protection at the Department of Natural Resources, Mines and Water, requesting that the Killarney Dingo Check Fence be removed from Map DF02 in the Land Protection (Pest and Stock Route Management) Regulation 2003 on the basis that there are financial and environmental factors that have a bearing on the viability and suitability of continuing to maintain the fence as a Dingo Check Fence.
  • THAT the Pest Management Working Group be requested to investigate alternative methods and options of dingo control.

Darling Downs Morton Rabbit board electrification trial will have an adverse effect on the echidnas.
