Githabul Native Title
Native title claims

The Queensland government has finally matched its NSW counterparts in recognising the land claim of the indigenous Githabul people around the Mt Lindesay area on the state border.

The decision comes seven months after the NSW government officially recognised the land rights claim over some 112,000 hectares of national parks within Kyogle and Tenterfield Shires. Githabul elders are, however, planning to lodge applications for some 6,000 square kilometres or 600,000 hectares of land around Warwick and Killarney. A spokesperson, Trevor Close was quoted on ABC radio as saying as saying the area was "virtually our backyard. We've got half the house now, but we want to have our full house."
