Appeal on Killarney veterans - Killarney RSL Funded Programmes Veterans are honoured with a poppy at the graveside each ANZAC Day, and will also be mentioned on the Branch's new y Honour Board being installed inthe RSL Hall. The branch has recently secured three grants that will be used to significantly improve services to members. A $22.000 grant from the state government's Community Gambling Benefit Fund will go towards installing a disability ramp and entrance platform, and widening of a doorway to allow wheelchair access at the branch Hall, as well as improvements to disability toilet access. The Commonwealth's Department of Families, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs has awarded the sub-branch $3000, which will be used to purchase a portable batter-operated PA system, including remote microphones, for outdoor activities~ particularly ANZAC Day Services~in Killarney. The federal Department of Veteran's Affairs have also granted the sub-branch $4000 towards improvements to security at the Hall, after a series of break-ins earlier this year vandalised the sub-branch's collections. Security screens will be installed over exterior windows of the building, and a shattered glass sliding cabinet panel will be replaced . The new facilities will be opened officially on ANZAC Day next year, and the branch is inviting community members to join the branch at a morning tea at the conclusion of Cenotaph Services at Killarney. |
