2008 Stories of the Condamine River

Paul Stumkat Symposium Director and Sculptor, representing KAPA has scheduled the next Symposium for July 2008. This 2 week, 3 weekend Sculpture Symposium, themed “Stories of the Condamine River”, will result in five monumental 6 tonne artworks that will permanently reside in some of the shire's towns and Warwick's Federation Park, by the Condamine River.

With up to 20 participating artists and a team of 5 guest artists creating their works out of local Warwick Tanamerah sandstone, in the highly visible venue of Leslie Park, watched by the fascinated public and students this superior 2008 Sculpture Symposium, sharpened by the success of the 2006 Sculpture Symposium is anticipated to become a paramount bi-annual event for the Queensland Southern Downs.

So if you are an artist wishing to participate don't hesitate to become involved. The first step is to download the Artists Expression of Interest Form. Please return the completed form by 29th February 2008. You may also wish to extend your artistic skills in the Master Class Workshops being held on the 19th and 20th of July 2008.

KAPA is confident that this years Symposium wil attract over 4000 extra visitors to the region during the 2 week, 3 weekends Sculpture Symposium.

Information for Artists

Twenty participating sculptors will be selected to be part of the event. The nine-day participation begins on the 18th of July and finishes with the Jumpers and Jazz Festival on the 27th of July 2008. The artwork produced by participating artists will remain the property of the artist however the artist may choose to offer it for sale at the Symposium Merchandise stand on the 27th July 2008. *Conditions apply.

A registration fee of $500 is required from all participating artists selected. Note: Airfares and travel expenses are the responsibility of the artist/sculptor.

Five Guest Artists will be selected from the Expressions of Interest received from the Participating Artists.

Each participating artist will be included in the Symposium Catalogue. There is also further opportunity to be included in other publicity and media releases.

Three meals a day will be provided, except for rest days. Participating Artists are invited to attend the Gallery Opening, Artists Talks, Excursion to Tanamerah Quarry and the Closing Party. It is the artist's own responsibility for travel, accommodation, tools and safety equipment. All artists are responsible for their own insurance.
